Microsoft Word a review guide

Microsoft Word has been around since the launch of Windows, and it is updated as often as Widows itself

The version I’m using to type this review guide is the 2007 edition, which was quite different to the old 98-word processor I had become accustomed to and as with many things it took time and effort and consent use to get used to

However, there are lot of useful new features, such as immediate look up of words when you are typing and unsure if a certain word is the right one, although you need to be connected to the internet in order to use this feature.

There is of course the spell and grammar check as with older versions, although the layout of Word also has undergone dramatic changes

Word has a tab system the first tab is Home

Home being where you choose fonts and their size, alignment – bold – italic and highlight

Page Layout

There is now an immediate preview of any changes to themes, giving you the opportunity of seeing how they would look without changing anything unless you want to

Also, where you can set margins – orientation –size and columns, also with layout there is a nice watermark feature such you want to mark is classified or confidential

Under this a somewhat strange feature where you can choose the colour of the page and again you get a preview and under this you can set the borders and over on the right indent and spacing settings

Moving onto mailing, where you can choose to do envelopes or labels and mail merge

For spell and grammar checking – research and a translation feature this requires internet connection

Although it should be noted that the grammar & spelling in Word is American based and therefore sometimes disagrees with the English ideas of correct grammar

View

Which allows previewing print layout or full screen for reading, also a web layout – Outline and draft and right up the far-right side is Macros which is used to automate repeating tasks

One word of Warning if you use Microsoft word and copy your article to paste into a blog or website, it has a nasty habit of including extra unseen characters which you won’t see until you publish
So you will need to re-edit after you have posted any pasted article, not certain this is still a problem, best to check any copy and pasted article or post after publishing
Re-edit if needed

Since I wrote this article, Windows 8 was updated to Windows10 which was dramatically different
The actual updating process of changing from one Windows operating system to another, took more time than "a few minutes" as Microsoft suggested
Updating to Windows 10 took all day and was still ongoing late at night
